Makin and Smith top boat at Portage Lakes

Justin Makin and Craig Smith took home the top honors at Portage Lakes with 16.38 lbs of largemouth. Houston Hooper and Steve Sigmund wrapped up second with 13.49, and Matt Bell and Javier Castello finished up the top three with 12.14.

The water temperatures were still in the 50 degree range on most of the main lake areas. Justin and Craig found a little warmer water and a group of pre spawn fish over submerged grass. The bait they relied on was a Gambler Mean-O. The double headed shad spin bait tipped with the Flapp'n Shad proved to be the ticket to this group of fish and the winning combination for a difficult day of fishing. Justin and Craig caught all their fish early and had the tournament in hand by 9:30. Second and third place fished similar patterns with a black and blue Gambler Football Jig and a black and blue Gambler Ninja Jig combined with the Gambler Flappy Daddy on main lake points.

Big Fish went to Matt Evans and Dave Gelaka with a 4.98 largemouth.
